 Dr. Katie Durante

Assistant Professor at Nevada State College


Dr. Katie Durante is an Assistant Professor in the History, Law, and Society Department at Nevada State College where she teaches in the Criminal Justice and Social Justice programs. She earned her in Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Cincinnati in 2017.

Katie employs quantitative methods to examine issues related to racial/ethnic inequality and imprisonment. She primarily researches two areas: racial/ethnic disparities in sentencing and the impacts of incarceration on the family. Prior to her current position, she spent three years conducting program evaluation for large federal grants for the drug court in Cincinnati, Ohio. 

Katie has been involved with several community organizations in different capacities to work toward a more just criminal legal system. She is an active researcher and has published in a variety of public outlets and academic journals, such as The Nevada Independent, Race and Justice, Criminal Justice Policy Review, the International Journal of Offender Therapy and Comparative Criminology, and Families, Systems, and Health, among others.
